Job Description

The Parks and Recreation Department of the Town of Brunswick seeks candidates for various seasonal Coffin Pond positions including Lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, Learn to Swim Aides, Gate/ Concession Attendants.  

The ideal candidate(s) will have proven and demonstrated supervisory skills and background in customer service. Additional requirements include strong attention to detail; excellent communication skills; ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; provides a positive and helpful attitude while working with the public.  

All positions, unless otherwise noted below, will work an average 15-40 hours a week from June 12 - August 20. Please indicate which position you are applying for on your application. 

Coffin Pond Site Supervisor & Waterfront Director is responsible for overall operations of the Coffin Pond facility including aquatic, concession, gate, playground, picnic area, trails and restroom spaces. This position will have oversight of all seasonal staff working within the facility. Individual(s) serving in this position are required to have WSI, Lifeguard, SafeServ and CPO certifications (department will assist with achieving these certifications if candidate does not currently possess them). This position will pay $16.50-$18.00 per hour, based on experience.  

Head Lifeguard & Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons within the Coffin Pond Recreation Area, enforce established rules and guidelines courteously and promote safe swimming area use, greeting and assisting customers, supervising spectators, and participants within the facility, assist with program equipment, facility setup and basic facility cleanliness as required. This position will also assist with administering water chemistry analysis to assess and regulate any chemical and mechanical operations. This position will pay $15.50-$17.00 per hour, based on experience.  

Gate & Concessions Attendant is responsible for greeting customers, assessing residency status, collecting appropriate fees and tallying users, tracking inventory, cleaning of equipment, handle and prep food, assist with program equipment, facility setup and basic facility cleanliness as required. This position will pay $14.25-$16.00 per hour, based on experience.  

Water Safety Instructor is responsible planning, organizing, and providing quality swimming and water safety instruction. Instructors will teach people how to be safe in, on and or around water and to teach people of all ages and varying abilities how to swim. This position will pay $17.00-$20.00 per hour, based on experience.  

Learn to Swim Aide is responsible for assisting the Water Safety Instructor and Program Director in providing quality swimming and water safety instruction. This position will pay $14.25-$15.00 per hour, based on experience.
