We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Youth Sports Manager. This fulltime (40 hour) position is a working management position responsible for planning, scheduling, implementing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of the youth sports programs offered by the Recreation Department. This professional and administrative role involves considerable contact with the public, including adults and children. The Youth Sports Manager oversees part-time and seasonal employees and volunteers. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Recreation Director, but independent judgment and ingenuity must be exercised in accomplishing objectives.
The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to pass CDL drug and alcohol testing requirements; ability and willingness to obtain Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification through the National Parks & Recreation Association (NRPA) and successfully complete the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) Select Coach Training program; ability to work a year-round flexible schedule depending on department needs, program schedules, and community, which will include weekdays, evenings, and/or weekends. Intermediate to advanced skill and proficiency in the following computer/software applications with the ability and willingness to learn new software programs as needed: Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, Calendar, Teams, Publisher and PowerPoint), Zoom; and MyRec. Extensive knowledge of community recreation, leisure, and sports activities with the ability to employ creativity and ingenuity in developing and executing successful programming; strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; skilled at working with people of diverse backgrounds, including all age groups, personality types, and skill levels with the ability to effectively engage program participants; solid leadership skills with the ability to effectively plan, assign, motivate, mentor, and supervise skilled and unskilled workers; self-motivated with solid organizational skills and the ability to exercise good judgment, work within established deadlines, and prioritize workload; ability to meet or exceed program objectives while working with minimal supervision; ability to maintain a positive attitude and commitment to the goals and philosophy of the organization. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify solutions to emerging issues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management or related field required. A minimum of three years’ related experience required. Related national and/or state certification (e.g. CPRP, NAYS Coach, etc.) preferred. Current certifications in CPR and First Aid preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Must hold a valid Driver’s License and be insurable in a normal risk pool. Must have the ability and willingness to obtain a Maine Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements within one year of hire.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a generous Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals covered by an alternative health plan are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage (currently $2,711 - $6,082 based on coverage eligibility). In addition to a choice between two excellent health insurance plans and paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year, employees have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, tuition reimbursement, and more. Salary range for Grade 3 positions begins at $26.63/hour; however, actual wage will depend on experience, qualifications, and budget availability.
