Job Description

Town of Gorham Recreation Department is seeking energetic, patient, and highly responsible individuals interested in being Summer Camp Counselors during the months of June through August. This is a temporary position averaging 32-40 hours per week. 

Summer Camp Counselors assist the Summer Camp Director in providing a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for children enrolled in the Summer Camp program. Duties include carrying out the daily camp schedule and promoting camper involvement in all activities. Counselors must be willing to remain attentive to campers and engaged at all times by actively participating in camp activities and role modeling positive behaviors. Pay starts at 16.75 per hour; candidates with current CPR/First Aid certification and/or Lifeguard certification are eligible for additional compensation. 

REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to work as scheduled for the duration of the camp program. A minimum of one-year related experience working with school-age children required. CPR/First Aid Certification and/or Lifeguard Certification strongly desired. Other relevant certifications a plus. Preference will be given to candidates having prior experience in a responsible leadership role. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
