Town of Buxton is seeking an energetic and dedicated Recreation Programmer – Childcare Services to coordinate, develop, and expand our year-round childcare programming, including Summer Camp and Specialized Summer Camp Programs.
This is a full-time, year-round, hourly position with benefits, working 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $18.50–$20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
About the Role
The Recreation Programmer will work closely with the Recreation Director to plan, manage, and deliver engaging childcare and recreation programs for the Buxton community. This role includes supervising staff and volunteers, developing enrichment activities, and ensuring a safe, positive environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee year-round childcare programs, including summer camps
- Supervise part-time staff, volunteer coaches, and event volunteers
- Create staff schedules, budgets, and weekly activity plans
- Develop creative enrichment activities such as theme weeks, art projects, and group events
- Ensure program safety and proper use of equipment
- Maintain accurate records including attendance,
timecards, and incident reports - Communicate regularly with school staff and program families and all stakeholders
- Assist with program registrations and office coverage
as needed
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Two- or four-year degree in Recreation/Leisure Management, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience
- At least two years of leadership experience in the childcare field
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Strong understanding of age-appropriate activities and behavior management for grades K–8
- Experience with childcare policy development preferred
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and use sound judgment
- Flexibility to work mornings, afternoons, and weekends as program needs require
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
