Join Our Team-- Recreation Director-- Town of Madison
The Town of Madison is seeking a community-minded, energetic, professional to lead our Recreation Department. As the Recreation Director, you will be the driving force behind a comprehensive program that keeps our residents of all ages active and engaged. From strategic planning to hands-on event coordination, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on the Madison-Anson community.
The Role at a Glance This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with established office hours, though flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays is required to support our various programs. You will work under the general supervision of the Town Manager and the Recreation Committee to build a vibrant future for our parks and programming.
Key Responsibilities: • Program Innovation: Plan, develop, and supervise a wide variety of year-round recreational activities for both youth and adults. • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Select Board and Town Manager to develop 1, 3, and 5- year strategic goals as we build this department up. • Community Engagement: Act as the face of the department through social media, news releases, and public presentations to promote programs and local events like Madison-Anson Days. • Operations Management: Develop and oversee departmental budgets, grant writing, and the maintenance of municipal parks and recreational areas. • Team Building: Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal and part-time staff and volunteers. What We’re Looking For We are looking for a leader who can balance administrative duties with active community presence. •
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Business, or a related field is recommended. We also value an equivalent combination of education and municipal experience. • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, budgeting, and procurement processes. •
Soft Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with MSAD 59 schools and other local organizations. • Certifications: You must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Candidates must possess or obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 60 days of hire. •
Location: Candidates must reside within a reliable commuting distance of Madison, ME, or plan to relocate before starting.
