Parks Supervisor
Job Description
he Town of Scarborough is seeking a full-time Parks Supervisor to join the Community Services team. This semi-skilled manual labor position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of 200+ acres of grounds and facilities including parks, trails, schools, town buildings, lawns, athletic facilities, campus plantings, snow removal, garbage collections (beach & parks), vehicles and equipment, and outdoor ice rink maintenance. Work involves mowing grass, painting athletic fields, removing snow, planting, garbage collections, keeping facilities clean, general repair and construction, scheduling, overseeing progress of projects and assignments.
The Parks Supervisor oversees full-time and seasonal employees as well as works with numerous contracted services. Directly performs a variety of physical and technical tasks relative to parks and facilities maintenance. This position reports directly to the Parks & Recreation Manager and interacts considerably with Town & School staff and the general public. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks & Grounds Manager and Community Services Director.
Must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and must be available be available to respond to emergencies within 60 minutes of a call-out. A valid Maine driver’s license with excellent driving record is required.
Preferred experience and qualifications: Prior responsible work experience of at least five years in the area of facilities, maintenance, safety, recreation, or a related field. Including experience in the operation of grounds maintenance and facility scheduling with strong supervisory, management, and computer skills. Maine Applicators Pesticide License, certification that relates to Organic Turf Management, and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain. In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
