Responsibilities
- Coordinates recreation staff and volunteers in the development and implementation of community enrichment programs for adults.
- Creates, plans and implements special events for the community;
- Develops positive relationships with outside vendors, instructors and resource groups to develop creative programs;
- Creates, plans and implements a large variety of programs for adults including fitness, trips, specialty programs and enrichment activities;
- Develops and maintains the budget for their specific program areas;
- Engages in outreach to bring in new program attendees;
- Solicits community feedback on program interests;
- Responds to public inquiries & concerns about their specific programs;
- Promotes programs to the public and local officials using a variety of resources including but not limited to electronic and social media venues, brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communications regarding recreation programs;
- Maintains a variety of records, including registrations, reservations, purchasing, accidents and incident forms;
- Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, communication correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, helping set up tables and chairs for classes, etc.;
- Availability to work evenings and weekends; and
- Assists in the recruitment, hiring and training of full-time, part-time and seasonal staff.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a (minimum) two-year college or university with a degree in Recreation or a closely related field;
- Five years’ recreation experience;
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Valid state drivers license;
- Experience working with adults ages 40 and older in a recreation program setting and knowledge of their social and physical needs;
- Minimum of two years’ supervisory experience in a recreation department or similar setting;
- Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, equipment, facilities, operations, techniques, planning and administration;
- Ability to develop and maintain budgets, with experience maintaining enterprise accounts;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and
- A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with MyRec software and graphic design/marketing applications (Canva) a plus;
- Comfortability with social media platforms and resources, or ability to learn upon hiring; and
- First Aid and CPR certified (the City will provide training)

Pay: $53,000-$56,600 per year
