Job Description
Position:    Before & After School Program Supervisor/Summer Camp Coordinator
The Wells Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Before & After School Care Supervisor to lead and support our youth programs throughout the year. This position is responsible for a range of supervisory, administrative, and direct service duties for the Before and After School Program during the school year, and for leading a Summer Camp Program during the summer season.
This position plays a key role in creating a safe, engaging, and fun environment for children, while also supervising staff, managing program logistics, and supporting department-wide events and activities.
Schedule & Benefits:
  • September to mid/end May: 32 hours per week (Before & After School Program Supervisor)
  • Mid/end May through August: 40 hours per week (Summer Camp Coordinator)
  • Year-round position with prorated benefits eligibility
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement daily activities for children in both school-year and summer programs.
  • Supervise and support program participants and staff.
  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, registration, and payments.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and program personnel.
  • Register participants using online recreation software (MyRec) and collect payments.
  • Prepare and serve snacks; maintain cleanliness of program facilities.
  • Participate in physical activities with children.
  • Assist with special events and seasonal activities (e.g., Haunted Hayride, Easter Egg Hunt and more).
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants and staff.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong understanding of child development and activity planning.
  • Familiarity with safety and hygiene practices in childcare settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn online registration systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Abilities:
  • Engage actively with children and manage group dynamics.
  • Supervise and motivate a diverse team of staff.
  • Handle high-volume events and outdoor conditions when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and operate office technology efficiently.
  • Work collaboratively with town departments and the public.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in childcare or child development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License.
  • Current First Aid and Child/Adult AED Certification (or willingness to obtain).
