Assistant Recreation Director

The Town of Gray is seeking an energetic, organized, and community-minded professional to serve as our next Assistant Recreation Director. This position plays a key leadership role in the Recreation Department by supervising program staff, supporting youth and adult recreation programming and special events, and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the department.  

The Assistant Recreation Director works closely with the Recreation Director to deliver high-quality recreational opportunities for the community and serves as the Director’s designee when needed.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manageand assistwiththe Town’s childcare services programs.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, andevaluating recreationalstaff.
  • Develop program procedures, safety practices, and participant records.
  • Communicate with families and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist with budgeting, program planning, and special events.
  • Support the development and delivery of youth and adult recreation programs.
  • Utilize recreation management software and assist participants with registration and program questions.
  • Serve as acting Recreation Director in the Director’s absence.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;collegedegree preferred.
  • Degree orcertificate in recreation managementis desirable.
  • Three to five years of experience in recreation, childcare programming, youth services, or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, families, participants, and community members.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license required.

Benefits

Pay: $57,100-$63,898 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. The Town of Gray offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes 13 paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, group health insurance with a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), a retirement plan with employer matching contributions, and more.
