Job Description
The Gorham Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for the full-time (40 hours) position of Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator assists other Recreation staff with the planning, coordination, and implementation of youth and adult recreation programs, including Before & After the Bell and Summer Camps. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain additional experience in a busy recreation department and enjoys interacting with people of all ages, but especially school-aged children. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of high school diploma, or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in recreation or related field preferred. Minimum of one (1) year work experience in recreation or directly related field required. Prior experience working with school-age children and active older adults preferred. CPR and First Aid Certification, or ability to become certified within six (6) months of employment. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Must hold a valid Driver’s License and be insurable in a normal risk pool. Must have the ability and willingness to obtain a Maine Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements within one year of hire.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: This position is eligible for a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals covered by an alternative health plan are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage (currently $2,443 - $5,480 based on coverage eligibility). In addition to a choice between two excellent health insurance plans, a 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match, and paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year, employees have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, tuition reimbursement, and more. The hourly pay range for Grade 2 positions begins at $21.38; however, actual wage will depend on experience, qualifications, and budget availability.
