The Town of Belgrade is seeking a recreation director to develop, implement and administer a comprehensive community recreation program that engages citizens of all ages throughout the year. Current programming includes summer day camps, a summer music series and craft shows on the Village Green, holiday celebrations, after-school care, and weekly offerings ranging from yoga to ping pong. Belgrade boasts two community centers, including the versatile Center for All Seasons in the village, and four parks, including the Village Green and Long Pond Beach.
The recreation director's responsibilities include coordinating and supervising the work of staff and volunteers; developing, scheduling and executing programs; scheduling and contracting the use of facilities; maintaining program and financial records and preparing reports; publicizing and promoting programming; and engaging in public and community relations.
Critical skills required include excellent communication skills, proficiency with technology, adept use of social media, an ability to work with children and with a wide variety of personalities, and proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
A bachelor’s degree with specialization in recreation leadership and management, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, is preferred. The recreation director must be certified in first aid, CPR and as a lifeguard within six months of being hired.
This is a 40-hour per week position that includes some night and weekend work. Salary is negotiable, depending upon experience.
