Job Description

The Town of Scarborough’s Community Services department is seeking an experienced, highly-motivated, talented and energetic Parks & Grounds Manager. Under the direction of the Community Services Director, this position provides leadership for the Parks & Grounds division of the Community Services system.  This is a full-time 40-hour per week position that oversees the direction, management, supervision and coordination of all tasks and operations of the Parks division. This role coordinates and directs the works of the Parks operations team and contractors on the maintenance of parks, trails, and recreation amenities to meet the vision, goals and objectives of the Town of Scarborough. 


Successful candidates will have experience in project management, turf management, staff management and development, implementing key policies and procedures, as well as the ability to enhance parks and facilities to meet the department's mission and vision statement and core values.


Position Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Parks & Recreation Management, Horticulture, Turf Management or related field, and at least 3 years’ experience in the Parks & Recreation field or similar setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Maine Driver’s license and transportation, current First Aid and CPR, and Certified Parks & Recreational Professional Certification (or willingness and ability to obtain) are required.


Excellent planning, organizational and customer service skills. Thorough understanding of parks and facilities management. We are seeking a self-starter who is able to work independently, is a well-organized, positive, enthusiastic, caring individual who enjoys working with the community. The candidate should be highly skilled in recruiting, retaining and training staff. The candidate should exemplify a proactive, hands-on and professional approach while working within a team atmosphere. Starting salary range: $65,000-$71,000.
