The Facilities Assistants works under the direct supervision of the Facilities and Outdoor Recreation Coordinator. This division oversees the care and maintenance of all facilities under the purview of the Recreation Department, including but not limited to: The J. Richard Martin Community Center, Clubhouse (formerly the Teen Center), fields, playspaces, and public restrooms at Pool Beach, Rotary Park, Clifford Park, Mayfield Park and St. Louis Sports Complex.
Responsibilities • Maintains inventories for all facilities for cleaning, equipment and maintenance. • Works with Coordinator to assess and identify ongoing maintenance issues, follow City of Biddeford Safety reporting procedures, and schedule vendor repairs. • May perform light maintenance, repairs, and cleaning when projects do not require the scope of an outside vendor or contractor. • Oversee a part-time custodial staff of 5-8 people including mentoring, training and discipline, as well as the seasonal field maintenance staff. • Works collaboratively with the Parks division of Biddeford Public Works for outdoor recreation facility maintenance. • Availability to work evenings and weekends. • Performs other work as required.
Qualifications: • HS graduate or equivalent • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in facility maintenance and supervision • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications • Valid state driver's license
Preferred Qualifications • Considerable knowledge of facility equipment, operations and maintenance • Skilled in operation of tools and equipment, and ability to train others • Skilled in operation of power tools and the ability to learn more. • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds • Current First Aid and CPR or ability to obtain. • Certified Playground Safety Inspection certified or ability to obtain. • Comfortable with computer technology for scheduling, training and communication. • Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in outdoor recreation programs. • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with • employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the public. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Ability to supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers.

Schedule: 36 hours per week; will include nights and weekends
